The Challenges: High Safety Requirements, New Materials, and Limited Space

The ‘Marie’ child seat series showcases SWANDOO's commitment to exceptional design and safety. “We pay attention to every little detail when developing our products," underlines Florian Königswenger, Head of Design and Development at SWANDOO. Child seats are expected to be lightweight, highly durable, maximally comfortable, and intuitively easy to use.

Expanded polypropylene (EPP) is chosen as the material due to its numerous positive qualities. However, conventional fastening solutions are not suitable for EPP. Additionally, the ‘Marie 3’ child seat had only 14 millimeters of integration space available for connections. Faced with these challenges, SWANDOO turned to Bossard to find a solution.

Innovative MM-Welding® Technology and Engineering as a Solution

"For such special applications, we have developed the innovative fastener LiteWWeight® zEPP MINI," explains Christian Busch, Business Development Manager at Bossard. "Based on our proven LiteWWeight® zEPP technology, it is very small yet extremely robust and perfect for modern designs in EPP, as seen in the ‘Marie 3’ child seat."

Our solution also boasts extremely short processing times. With a focus on high quantities and fast cycle times, the LiteWWeight® zEPP MINI can be ideally automated, creating durable connection points in EPP foam within just two to three seconds.

The technology enables the realization of new designs and constructions by directly integrating the connection geometry into the component.
