A Heat-Resistant Fixing System for Higher Tunnel Safety

A fastening system to withstand a fire in a tunnel with temperatures of 1,200 °C for over six hours? Read how we managed to develop a fastening solution for the highest safety needs, while reducing assembly time significantly.

Tunnel Safety - heat resistant fixing system

The Challenge: More Safety with Greater Productivity

Tunnel safety is a global concern. One of our customers in France develops fixing systems and supplies safe, economical fixings and connectors around the world. For a tunnel renovation in Paris, the goal was to improve the current fixing system for fire protection plates.

We were given the task of identifying a fastening solution which can withstand corrosion and extreme temperatures in case of a fire in a tunnel. Public safety must not be compromised. In addition to the safety requirement, the new solution had to enable a faster, better installation process. In short, safety with greater productivity.

A Fastener for Extreme Conditions

In order to meet the very stringent safety requirements and product performance, the Bossard engineering team came up with a solution called ecosyn® MRX. This is a fastener constructed with special martensitic, hardened, tempered chrome steel. The ecosyn® MRX can resist at least six hours of extreme temperatures up to 1,200 °C. This is the result of a new development in material technology. In addition, the self-drilling thread is designed for high-performance drilling.

Customer Benefit

  • Test passed, ecosyn® MRX released
  • Our Bossard ecosyn® MRX screws successfully meet all the stringent requirements, providing higher safety, better corrosion resistance, and faster assembly.
